한국어의 존댓말(Honorifics in the Korean Language) 

 

1. 우리는 나이가 더 많거나 더 높은 직급인 사람과 얘기를 할 때 존댓말을 사용한다.

- We use honorifics when speaking to someone who is older, or someone who holds a higher rank.

2. 처음 만난 사람에게도 존댓말을 쓴다.

- We also use honorifics when we first make someone's acquaintance.

3. 그것들은 문화적으로 중요한 부분이다.

- They are an important aspect of culture.

4. 한국어처럼 체계적으로 존댓말이 갖춰진 언어는 세계적으로 많지 않다.

- Only a few languages in the world use honorifics that are as systematic as Korea's.

5. 한국어를 배우는 많은 외국인들이 흔히 어렵게 느끼는 부분이 바로 이것이다.

- It's something that a lot of foreigners learning Korean as a second language often struggle with.

 

 

꼰대 의식(Kkondae Mentality)

1. 간단히 말해서, 꼰대는 자신은 늘 옳고 타인은 항상 틀렸다고 믿는 사람을 가리킨다.

- Simply put, kkondae refers to someone who believes they are always right and others are always wrong.

2. 이러한 사람들은 매사에 남을 가르치려 하고 훈수를 두려고 한다.

- These people are always preachy and try to lecture people.

3. 또 다른 원인으로는 연공서열과 나이를 중시하는 왜곡된 유교문화가 있다.

- Another cause is a misguided version of Confucian culture that emphasizes seniority and age.

4. 이러한 수직적 상하관계의 문화는 건강한 조직문화를 저해하는 큰 요인이다.

- This culture of vertical relationships is a major factor in setting back a healthy team dynamic.

5. 권위를 내려놓고 자신과 다른 가치관을 가진 타인과 소통할 줄 아는 것이 중요하다.

- It's important to set aside authority and communicate with others who have a different set of values.

 

 

영어 원서 읽기(Reading English Books)

1. 저는 영어 공부를 하며 여러 시행착오를 겪었습니다.

- I went through a lot of trial and error trying to study English.

2. 이제는, 매일 영어 원서를 읽는 것이 제 삶의 활력소가 되었습니다.

- Now, reading books in English every day is like a shot in the arm for me.

3. 우리는 우리가 원하는 어떤 방법으로든 결과를 공유하면 됩니다.

- We can share our results in whatever way we choose.

4. 어떤 사람들은 영어 단어장을 만듭니다.

- Some people compile lists of vocabulary.

5. 영어공부가 더 이상 공부가 아닌 습관이 되어가고 있는 느낌입니다.

- I feel like studying English is becoming more of a habit than a study routine.

 

 

공무원 시험(Civil Services Exams) 

1. 그것이 한국에서 공무원 시험 경쟁률이 매우 높은 이유다.

- That's why there is stiff competition for Korea's civil service exams.

2. 공무원은 정년을 보장받고, 호봉에 따라 급여를 받기 때문에 매우 안정적인 직장 생활이 가능하다.

- Civil servants are guaranteed their jobs until retirement, and they are paid according to their pay grade.

3. 이것은 안정적인 직장생활을 즐길 수 있다는 뜻이다.

- This means they can enjoy a very stable career.

4. 이 공무원 시험을 준비하는 인구는 매년 수십만 명에 이른다.

- Hundreds of thousands of people do test prep for these civil service exams each year.

5. 시험 응시자들은 학원을 다니며 제법 오랜 기간 준비한다.

- Test applicants attend cram schools and prepare for a long time.

 

 

온라인 콘서트(Online Concerts)

1. 코로나19 대유행으로 인해 지난해 문화 공연계에 많은 변화가 있었다.

- The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about changes in cultural performances in the past year.

2. 사회적 거리두기 조치가 일 년 내내 계속되면서, 대규모 집합이 금지되는 경우가 많았다.

- As social distancing measures dragged on all year, large-scale gatherings were off limits in many cases.

3. 따라서, 뮤지컬, 연극, 콘서트와 매년 열리는 뮤직 페스티벌이 대부분 연기, 축소되거나 취소되었다.

- So, musicals, plays, concerts, and annual music festivals were mostly postponed, downsized, or cancelled.

4. 나도 집에서 그들의 공연을 보고 큰 감동을 받았다.

- I saw their performances from home and I was deeply moved.

5. 표를 구매해야 했지만, 다양한 CG 효과로 온라인 콘서트의 매력을 더욱 즐길 수 있었다. 

- I had to pay for the tickets, but various CG effects really amped up the excitement of an online concert.

 

 

미국 주식 시장 투자(Investing in the U.S Stock Market)

1.  그들은 기업이나 시장에 관한 정보를 영어로 수집해야 하는 경우가 많다.

- They often have to do their information gathering in English to learn about companies or the market.

2. 한국 전문가들이 미국 주식 정보를 해설해 주는 뉴스 채널이나 유튜브 채널이 있기는 하다.

- There are news channels or YouTube channels where Korean experts throw light on U.S stocks.

3. 어떤 기업에 투자하고자 한다면 분기별 실적 발표를 잘 지켜봐야 한다.

- If you want to invest in a  company, you should keep an eye on the earnings report for each quarter.

4. 그 기업의 미래 성장 잠재력과 사업 전망을 파악해야 한다.

- You need to figure out the company's future growth potential and business prospects

5. 이것은 특정 주가 지수의 등락에 따라 수익률이 연동되도록 설계한 펀드의 종류를 말한다.

- This is a type of fund designed to link the rate of return to the ups and downs of certain stock indices. 

 

 

주택 청약 제도(Housing Subscription System)

1. 한국에서 신규 아파트를 분양받을 자격을 얻기 위해서는 주택청약통장이 필요하다.

- To be eligible for the distribution of new apartments, you need to have a housing subscription savings account.

2. 이 통장을 일정 기간 동안 유지해야 아파트를 신청할 수 있다.

- You need to maintain the account for a certain period of time to apply for an apartment.

3. 새 아파트에 당첨되면 상당한 수익을 볼 수 있다.

- You can earn a tidy profit if you are selected for a new apartment.

4. 일반적으로, 신규 아파트 분양가는 그 지역의 주변 시세보다 더 낮다.

- Generally, the price of a new apartment you get through the draw is lower than the going rate of the area.

5. 그러나, 일부 투기과열지구에는 전매 제한이 있다.

- However, there are resale restrictions in some speculation-prone areas.

 

 

해외 유학(Studying Overseas)

1. 고등학교를 자퇴하고, 본격적으로 유학 준비를 했다.

- I dropped out of high school and began preparing in earnest to study abroad.

2. 중국에서 가서 공부하고 싶었던 마음이 시들해지기 시작했다.

- My desire to study in China started to fade.

3. 그래서 방향을 바꿔 호주에 있는 대학교에 지원하기로 결정했다.

- So, I changed course and decided to apply to college in Australia.

4. 몇 개월 동안 '입트영'을 들으며 공부한 것이 시험의 스피킹 파트에 많은 도움이 되었다.

- Studying for several months with '입트영' really came in handy for the speaking portion of the test.

5. 코로나19가 하루빨리 종식되어서, 내가 원하는 호주에 있는 대학교에 가서 공부하고 싶다.

- I hope that COVID-19 will be brought under control quickly so that I can study at the college of my choice in Australia.
