중고거래앱 (Apps for Buying and Selling Used Stuff)

1. 우리나라 인구 약 4명 중 1명 꼴로 이러한 앱을 사용하고 있다고 통계는 보여준다.

- Statistics show that roughly a quarter(one out of four) of all Koreans use these apps.

2. 지금은, 더 이상 사용하지 않거나, 반품이 되지 않는 물건을 앱을 통해 판매할 수 있다.

- Now, people can use apps to sell items that they don't use, or that they can't return for a refund.

3. 이 방식으로, 다른 사람이 물건을 다시 사용할 수 있어서 자원 낭비를 막을 수 있다.

- This way, others can make use of the items again, preventing a waste of resources.

4. 사는 사람은 물건을 싸게 살 수 있고, 파는 사람은 수입이 생겨서 서로 이득이다.

- The buyer can get a good price, and the seller can earn a profit, so it's a win-win(mutually beneficial).

5. 판매자가 가까운 거리에 있기 때문에 직접 만나서 거래를 할 수 있다.

- Since the seller is just a stone's throw away, people can meet in person for a sale.

 

 

겨울철 피부관리 (Skincare in the Winter)

1. 난방 때문에, 실내 공기가 매우 답답하고 건조해진다.

- Because of the heating, it really gets stuffy and dry inside.

2. 이러한 환경에서는, 피부가 쉽게 건조해지고 각질이 일어나는 경우가 많다.

- In these conditions, it's very common for one's skin to dry out or get flaky.

3. 아토피 피부염을 앓고 있거나 습진이 있는 사람들은 특히 피부 가려움이나 피부 염증으로부터 힘들어할 수 있다.

- People with atopic dermatitis or eczema can especially suffer from itchy skin or skin inflammation.

4. 건조한 피부를 예방하기 위해, 보습제를 바르는 것이 중요하다.

- To prevent dry skin, it's important to apply moisturizer.

5. 그리고 실내 온도와 습도를 적정한 수준으로 유지하는 것도 피부가 건조해지는 것을 예방하는데 도움이 된다.

- It's also good to maintain the temperature and humidity indoors at an appropriate level.

 

 

온라인 수업 (Online Classes)

1. 코로나바이러스 사태가 장기화되면서, 지난 1년간 많은 학교에서 온라인과 오프라인 수업을 병행해왔다.

- With the coronavirus crisis dragging on, many schools have held both online and offline classes over the past year.

2. 교사들은 각종 기기와 동영상 편집 프로그램 등을 이용해서 수업 영상을 제작했다.

- Teachers produced video lessons using various gadgets and gizmos, and video editing software.

3. 학생들은 이렇게 비대면으로 공부하는 것에 점점 익숙해져 가고 있다.

- Students are growing accustomed to this kind of socially distanced learning.

4. 자기 주도형 학습 습관이 잘 갖춰진 학생들은 이전보다 더 효율적으로 공부할 수 있다.

- Students with good self-directed study habits were able to study more efficiently than before.

5. 영상으로, 건너 뛰면서 이해가 안되는 파트만 볼 수 있다.

- With videos, they could skip ahead to just the parts they couldn't get a grasp of.

 

상대적 박탈감 (Relative Deprivation)

1. 작년에 코로나19 사태로 바닥을 쳤던 주식 시장도 급반등을 하며, 사상 최고치를 경신했다.

- The stock market hit rock bottom because of COVID-19 last year, but it then rebounded sharply and set record highs.

2. 이러한 상승장에서 주식 투자를 해서 큰돈을 번 사람들이 많다.

- Many people made a bundle by investing in this bull market.

3. 이 연유로 이렇게 자본 축적을 하지 못했던 사람들은 상대적인 박탈감을 강하게 느낀다.

- That's why people who weren't able to earn as much feel a strong sense of relative deprivation.

4. 요즘 세상은 돈에 무관심하게 사는 것이 불가능하다.

- It is impossible to be indifferent to money in today's world.

5. 재테크에 관련된 공부를 꾸준히 하는 것이 중요한 것 같다.

- I think it is important to study up on investing techniques.

 

UN (United Nations)

1. 이것은 세계 평화와 안정에 기여하기 위한 국제기구이다.

- It is an international organization aimed at contributing to global peace and security.

2. 유엔에는 여러 산하기관들이 있다.

- The UN has several affiliated organizations.

3. 가장 대표적인 것인 유엔아동기금이다.

- UNICEF is a good example.

4. 공석 공고는 유엔 홈페이지를 통해 수시로 이루어진다.

- Job postings(openings) are frequently announced on the UN webpage.

5. 서류전형, 필기시험, 화상이나 전화로 진행하는 역량기반면접을 통해 선발된다.

- People are chosen through application reviews, written tests, and competency-based interviews via videoconferencing.

 

로봇 청소기 (Robotic Vacuum Cleaners)

1. 요즘 로봇 청소기는 예전 모델에 비하면 차원이 다릅니다.

- Robotic vacuum cleaners these days are in a different league compared to earlier models.

2. 로봇 청소기는 지름이 대략 40센티미터 정도의 납작한 원통 모양입니다.

- Robotic vacuums look like flat cylinders, and they are roughly 40cm in diameter.

3. 바닥에 있는 것들을 잘 정리해놓기만 하면, 청소도 그런대로 양호하게 되는 편입니다.

- As long as you tidy up anything on the floor, they do a passable job of cleaning.

4. 로봇 청소기가 있으면 집안을 깔끔하게 정리하는 것이 습관이 됩니다.

- If you have a robotic vacuum, keeping your home nice and tidy becomes a habit.

5. 정돈된 집은 금상첨화입니다.

- A tidy home is icing on the cake.

 

노르웨이 여행(Trip to Norway)

1. 3년 전에, 스칸디나비아 반도를 3주간 여행했습니다.

- Three years ago, I travelled through the Scandinavian peninsular for three weeks.

2. 노르웨이로 가는 길에 덴마크와 스웨덴을 통과했습니다.

- I went through Denmark and Sweden en route to Norway.

3. 궂은 날씨로 인해 땅이 미끄러웠습니다.

- The ground was slippery because of inclement weather.

4. 마침내 정상에 도착했을 때, 절벽에서 바라본 뤼세피오르(Lysefjord)의 풍경은 정말 장관이었습니다.

- When I finally reached the top, the view of Lysefjord from the cliff was a sight to behold.

5. 북유럽 여행에서 가장 좋은 순간이었습니다.

- It was the high point of my trip to Scandinavia.

 

 

한국의 커피 변천사(How Coffe Has Changed in Korea)

1. 경제성장으로 삶의 질이 향상되어면서, 유행하는 커피의 종류 또한 달라지고 있다.

- Economic growth in Korea has improved the quality of life, so the types of coffee that are most in-demand are changing.

2. 90년대 이후에는 인스턴트 커피믹스가 탄생하며 큰 인기를 얻었다.

- Before the 1990s, coffee was usually a mix of instant coffee, sugar, and non-dairy creamer.

3. 2010년부터 웰빙을 강조하는 문화가 정착되었다.

- Since 2010, an emphasis on healthy living has taken root in our culture.

4. 점점 더 많은 사람들이 커피 본연의 향을 즐기기 위해 블랙커피를 선호한ㄴ다.

- More and more people prefer black coffee, to enjoy the natural aroma of coffee itself.

5. 이러한 커피는 카페에서 주문 즉시 기호에 맞게 제조된다.

- Theses drinks are made to order at cafes.

 

텍스트 음성변환(Text to Speech)

1. TSS는 Text to Speech의 약자이다.

- TTS is short for Text to Speech.

2. 이 기술은 처음에는 일부 국한된 사용처에서만 쓰였다.

- The use of this technology was limited just a few applications at first.

3. 아파트 단지 내 아내 방송, 열차와 지하철 안내 방송, 전화 자동 응답 ARS에도 모두 TTS가 사용된다.

- PA(Public Announcement) systems in apartment complexes, train and subway annoucements and automated customer support over the phone(IVR: Interactive Voice Responce, ARS를 뜻함) all use TTS.

4. 우리가 자주 쓰는 차량 내비게이션의 자세한 길 안내 음성에도 이 기술이 사용된다.

- The turn-by-turn directions from the satnav(Satlite Navigation) we often use in our cars also use this technology.

5. 단점은 기계음이라 어색하게 느껴질 수 있다는 것이다.
